I got two right answers for the right triangle problem. One got it right at the outset. MathWhiz! The other got it after a minus one!
Well, 'such a triangle does not exist!' is the correct answer. The reason is that the perpendicular to hypotenuse can never be greater than half the length of the hypotenuse. If you draw the locus of all heights of the perpendicular to the hypotenuse, it will form a circle of diameter = length of hypotenuse. ergo, the maximum length of the perpendicular can only be half of hypotenuse = 6 in our case. So, the maximum area of the right triangle can be 12x6/2 = 36. But given the dimensions in the question, the answer is the impossible nature of such a triangle.
And no, 12x7/2 = 42 is not the answer!
